Why we started

Chopping Bag started with a tired mother and a week of kenkey.

I'd stopped going to the market myself. But my mum kept going, every week. Until one week she was too tired, and we ate kenkey three nights running. Not because we wanted to. Because shopping had become the hardest part of cooking.

This is not just a me problem. More and more Ghanaian families do not cook at home because of how tiring buying in bulk has become.

That's the problem worth solving. People haven't stopped wanting home-cooked food. It's that getting the ingredients costs an evening, a taxi, and more energy than most people have left after a day's work.

So we do that part. You tell us what you want and what you want to spend. We're sourcing your groceries by Thursday and delivering it at your door on Saturday.

Cooking is not easy. Shopping shouldn't be harder than cooking.

How a week works

    Monday – Tuesday

    You build your list

    Add things through the week as you think of them. Order by Tuesday to make Saturday.

    Wednesday

    We call you

    A real person rings to confirm your list and check anything unusual before we buy.

    Thursday

    We're at the market

    Early, picking your order fresh. Nothing sits in storage waiting for you to want it.

    Friday

    Last call, then packing

    Final chance to change anything. Then we pack your order and confirm the price.

  • 5

    Saturday

    At your door

    Delivered on Saturday, right when you'd otherwise be heading to the market.

What you can hold us to

  • You can buy by price, or by weight

    Tell us GH₵20 or a kilo of tomatoes and that's what you get. However you want it.

  • Nothing sits in storage

    We don't hold stock. We source your order after you've placed it, which is exactly why it arrives fresh.

  • If we can't find it, you don't pay for it

    Markets are markets. If something isn't good enough to send you, we say so and refund it.

  • A person calls, every week

    Every order gets a phone call before it's packed. You're not shouting into an app and hoping.
